I’m struggling with motivation at the moment.’
This was a message from a check-in last week.
How good would it be if you could control motivation with a click of your fingers?
(I’m not going to pretend that I can do that…
If I could…I’d be sitting on a yacht somewhere writing this email rather than my office/spare bedroom in drizzly England).
Anyway, last week I was working through some goal-setting and one of the questions really shifted my outlook.
Now before we get into it – discipline and consistency are important.
And, I’m not going to sit here like all the Instagram coaches and gurus would and tell you
‘Motivation doesn’t exist!’ or ‘we all have the same 24 hours in the day!’ Blah blah blah
While I do agree with these statements it’s also important for you to understand your why.
So before I give you my answers.
I want to know…
Why do you exercise and diet?
Write it down.
Now repeat, why is that your reason?
Jot it down.
Now, I’m going to ask you again…
Why?
Keep recording it until you’ve asked yourself why 5x.
If you’ve not done this yet, have a go now.
I was amazed when I completed this task for myself.
My final answer was: I like to train and diet because it allows me to have better control of the outcomes in my life.
Usually, when I’m feeling a bit low, you can bet I haven’t been keeping up with my training.
If I’ve been feeling tired or sluggish, my nutrition choices have been poor.
Having the knowledge that I can control a lot of the outcomes in my life
Or how I perceive those outcomes…
Is the biggest motivator I have.
Hopefully, that exercise has helped you find your motivation.
